Move to a Healthier YOU!
MOVE to a Healthier YOU! - Bristol's Promise's Community Health Initiative kicked off on October 29, 2006 with 400 to 500 children, youth and adults coming to Viking Hall with 34 booth participants, activities showcased on the floor and on the stage. A highlight was Minds in Motion, Richmond Ballet’s dance/movement program for 4th graders in the Richmond VA City Schools. Over 200 participants signed up for the "Stepping" program. MOVE to a Healthier YOU! moved on with 5 Super Foods for a Super YOU! (Be Wise, NO Super Size!) on Saturday, February 3rd, 2007 at the Bristol Mall. Local health departments, YMCA, YWCA, Southeast Culinary & Hospitality College, K-VA-T Foods, Appalachian Sustainable Development, and other were on hand to share ideas & tastes of how to make healthy food choices.
MOVE to a Healthier YOU! Implemented the "Stepping" program during the October 2006 Kickoff. Those who are participating are encouraged to continue. If you have not signed a Personal Promise to make physical activity a priority in your life and received a Promise Passport Weekly Journal with information for the walking/stepping program, you can still participate. The goal is for us all to increase our steps to get 10,000 steps a day (about 5 miles). The Personal Promise of 10,000 steps a day is not easy for all to achieve. For most it requires 20-30 minutes of dedicated exercise. Set your goals to increase every day, if it takes a long time to reach 10,000, you are closer than you were the day before. Join and support each other as we MOVE to a Healthier YOU!
